We visited your exhibition in Carrickfergus and found it to be very interesting.Do you remember me speaking of my father who served in WWII? You asked me if I would write down the wee story I told you about my father and his alsatian 'Sheila'
He served as a dog handler with the Royal Air Force, and here is the story he often fondly told us about his beloved dog Sheila
When he was out on duty one night in the dark they captured a German soldier and Sheila duly did as she was commanded - chased the soldier up a tree and sat under it until help was summoned - she would not have harmed anyone unless told to do so - The German was finally captured and held prisoner. After the war was over, my father was allowed to take the dog home, as they were inseperable. My father went on to tell me that just before 3pm the dog would sit at the door and whimper, my Grandmother would get up and let her out and off she trotted to the school to collect my sister who was five at the time and she would sit on her back and the dog would bring her back home. I am sending you an e/mail with an attachment of a picture of my father and his dog. he is on the front line to the left of the picture.
Regards and keep up the good work.
P.S. I will see what I can find relating to the war and send you a little parcel and hope it will be of some use to you
